Unlike other fibers, wool is much more resilient, cleans better, and stays clean longer.
Depending on the amount of traffic and soil, a professional washing is recommended every one to three years for the cleaning of your Oriental rug. For those rugs that are not color-fast, never try to clean them yourself but seek a professional service like A Striking Image to avoid bleeding of colors.
Since we live in the dusty Southwest city of Las Cruces, what A Striking Image tells all our customers is: "The more often you vacuum your area rugs and carpets, the less often you will see us or need our service". It is not that we at A Striking Image do not want the work, but we are just looking out for our customers. So, area rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be careful not to vacuum the fringe or to vacuum it very lightly to avoid damage.
Rugs should be rotated once a year to insure even wear. The rotation may vary from a couple of months to every couple of years depending on the amount traffic and soil.
A quality pad or underlayment can used under your rug to help protect it from dirt, wear and slippage. We will be happy to provide you with the references where you can buy one.
In case of damage, a professional restorer will solve just about any problem. Old and antique rugs sometimes need to be rewoven where worn and restored to life. Newer rugs are rarely in need of repair. An experienced professional should always be consulted in these matters.
The following is assuming the area rug is color-fast: When spills occur, remove excess material with a spoon or a dull knife being careful not to damage the fibers. Next blot the spot to remove any excess spill, then dilute the spot with of water and blot. Repeat with water and blotting if necessary. If the spill still does not come clean then you can use an appropiate spotter for the spill. Always test the spotter in an inconspicuous place. Avoid rubbing the area strongly. It is always best to attack the spill immediately. Also, it is advisable to rub or brush lightly from the outer edge toward the center of stain to prevent spreading the spot or spill. The rule of thumb is go from weakest method/chemicals to strongest method/chemicals. If you can not remove the spot/spill or you are not sure, please call us as we would be happy to clean your rug for you.
